An administrator can accomplished very little without the confidence of their stakeholders.  Chester Area School teachers, staff, community members and School Board have been very supportive of me and the advancements I have tried to create.  It is through the building of relationships that makes it possible to diagnose the needs of the school, the students and the community.  Being a person who listens to the needs of the people and being prudent with the district’s money are a huge part of my success in Chester.

Chester, a community that is very proud of its school, will do whatever it takes to make the school a success. The small size of the community, helps make the school the hub of everything we do.  I always keep that thought foremost when making any decision that creates change.  With the backing of the school board, those well thought out  decisions are put into effect.  Some of the decisions that are facility oriented have included:  An elementary addition, major renovation of many of the high school classrooms, the addition of a new track and field, a new wood floor and bleachers in the gym and the current renovation of the ag department, concession stand weight room, and kitchen.  Curriculum based innovations have included:  One to One Tablet Program, Smart Boards in every classroom, Curriculum Development Program (CDP), all day kindergarten, school sponsored pre-school program for 3 to 5 year olds, begindergarten, Cyber School for 26 Hutterite colonies which include 262 high school students and most recently High Plains Technical School.

I truly believe that all children can learn in their own way and time.  That is why I believe in educating all children no matter what their background, whatever their skill level, their likes or dislikes.  There is something out there for everyone if we can find it.  Therefore, I have sponsored programs from preschool to high school, from academics to drama to musicals and sports.

The way I treat people directly affects how they respond.  I realize that for students to learn, they must have great teachers.  To have great teachers, you must unlock their talents and give them the skills and tools to teach.  I back my teachers, school board members and administration because without them and their support, my job would not get done.  By realizing that it does not matter if the people I deal with are young or old, when I treat them with respect and show them I truly care about what is right, that is when they respond in a positive manner.  I am very proud of our school and all the advancements we have made as a team.  I am proud to be a leader of people who trust me and will follow my lead to achieve our goals.
